The VirtualClassroom will continue to develop and expand the range of asynchronous web based interactive tools for students. However for students to participate in the broadband encounters, school sites must establish high-speed access to the CRC BADLAB. In the early stages of the program direct access to broadband networks by K-12 schools was non-existent. Teachers and students had to travel to the CRC BADLAB, Universities, or other national or international advanced network research labs to access broadband tools for VirtualClassroom encounters.
The success of these initial broadband encounters has lead to a number of school boards in Canada to acquire the technical expertise, connectivity, and hardware to implement their own high-speed connections from their school or board.
