One of our research areas, particularly under the High Capacity Tactical Communication Networks (HCTCN) project is to study the real-time multimedia service support over a MANET. We have proposed a novel lightweight service discovery mechanism to offer the real-time session (SIP based) services with satisfactory performance metrics. Using cross-layer design techniques, the solution delivers improved service accessibility and robustness under the impact of network mobility. SIP over MANET simulators and SIP MANET test beds are being developed under the research project.
