Routing Protocols for MANET

The research community proposes many routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks. The MANET working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) accomplished a lot of standardization work in this area. Much of our work at CRC is based on the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol. Many laboratory experiments using real MANET with OLSR took place as part as our research activities. We have also conducted a great amount of simulation work on routing protocols.

CRC developed the first IPv6 version of OLSR, based on an older INRIA IPv4 code. Since the original port to IPv6, the software went through several updates, and it is now RFC 3626 compliant. This software is publicly available. It has been widely used by many nations as part of a NATO project, and it is believed to be very stable. This software compiles and runs on Linux.
