High Capacity Tactical Communications Network (HCTCN)

April 2002-June 2006

The main objectives of this project are to develop and demonstrate new technologies to support next-generation mobile wireless high-capacity tactical communications and to meet future army communications requirements. The R&D output will benefit the Canadian Army's TIDE (Tactical Information Distribution Enhancement) project, intended to enhance data throughput of its newly fielded Iris tactical communications system. The work focuses on improving ad hoc routing scalability for large-scale military communication networks when nodes are equipped with radios that provide various transmission ranges and frequencies, on providing Voice over IP capabilities using the Session Initiated Protocol (SIP), on providing a service discovery mechanism to map user URL to IP addresses.
