All-Optical Network (AON) Demonstrator Program

Mission

Verification and validation of dynamic, cost-effective, scalable architectures and control and management solutions for next generation optical networks.

Multi-year Program Objectives

  1. System level implementation and integration of key network building blocks
    • Optical switching, amplification, transmission, attenuation, wavelength conversion, network reconfigurability
    • Optical performance monitoring, QoS
  2. Proof-of-concept of architectural and technology requirements (network level)
    • E2E physical layer evaluation and performance characterization
    • Metro network architecture characterization
    • Fault management in physical layer
  3. Testbed for prototyping E2E lightpath service for CA*net4 NREN
    • GMPLS, O-UNI, OBGP, OON, Jini / JavaSpaces
    • Web Services (SOAP, XML, WSDL)
    • Validation of advanced protocols for dynamic lightpath provisioning over a WDM infrastructure
