In November 2004, under FP6, the EU approved a second two-year project that will build on the successes and lessons learned from IST-EC. With its network of Canadian and European members, IST-EC 2 will assist Canadian and European organizations in establishing collaborative R&D projects by:

• disseminating information on European and Canadian research activities, interests and facilities
• improving awareness in Europe and Canada of opportunities for collaboration and on programs and funding mechanisms available
• organizing thematic workshops and information sessions in both Canada and Europe to help researchers meet and potentially initiate new projects
• fostering cooperation between Canadian and European research organizations under specific research projects

IST-EC 2 is operational from April 2005 to April 2007. In Canada, IST-EC 2 is supported by a number public and private sector research organizations.
