The Seventh Framework Program for research and technological development (FP7) is the European Union's main instrument for funding research in Europe. It was adopted on December 18, 2006 by the European Council and is the successor to FP6. FP7 will operate from 2007-2013 with a total budget of $53.2 billion Euros, the largest funding allocation for these programs.
FP7 will be implemented through four specific programs:
Cooperation - collaborative research and the core of FP7Ideas - the establishment of a European Research Council (ERC) to support frontier research.

People - human resources and provides significant support for research mobility and career development, both for researchers inside the EU and externally.
