Action Team 6

The Action Team 6 was established by the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space as a mechanism for initiating the implementation of the recommendations of the third United Nations Conference UNISPACE III.

Mission Statement:

To foster the implementation of tele-health for developing countries and to improve public health services by faciliting the applications of space technologies in early warning of infectious diseases.

Target ultimate outcome:

To facilitate the coordination of establishment of an early warning database, modelling, analyses, and/or a coordination mechanism for water-borne and vector-borne infectious diseases such as avian flu, malaria, Dengue fever, leishmaniasis, Chagas Disease, paludism, cholera, hemorrhagic fever, etc.

Objectives:

This Action Team aims at addressing the following issues for tele-health services:

  • Facilitating the national policy of utilizing broadband services and data in developing countries for supporting health surveillance and its data acquisition.
  • Applying space-based data to develop an early warning mechanism that is capable of predicting health threats to public and alerting authorities in a timely manner.
  • Facilitating the provision or access to capacity building and training on tele-epidemiology.
