CRC releases Fm TwoO and FM-RDS Android Library

15 February 2011

The Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) took part of the EBU's (European Broadcasting Union) Digital Radio Week 2011.

Android Phone

First, it hosted a workshop to demonstrate CRC's mmbTools open platforms for mobile broadcasting.

Next, the CRC announced the launch of FM Two0 radio and RDS application for the Android operating system during the Digital Radio Summit. The app is believed to be the first independent FM-RDS application for the Android market. The Fm Two0 currently runs on the popular Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone and other similar models.

To coincide with the launch of the new Android application technology, the CRC released the FM-RDS Android library, which is used in FM Two0. The library can be used to create new applications that make use of the FM-RDS features or to add this capability to an existing application. In the first released version, the library provides live access to PI, PS and Radio Text content. The CRC hopes to make this technology available to all mobile phone platforms.
