CRC set to WOW National Association of Broadcasters

12 April 2010

The Communications Research Centre (CRC) will be among several international broadcast labs invited into the International Research Park section at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas.

There, CRC experts will showcase a number of technologies, including:

  • CRC’s real-time 2D-to-3D conversion technique for 3D-TV applications;
  • its video frame rate conversion technology;
  • several CRC software applications – for the subjective and objective evaluation of audio quality; for the recording, play back, display and time synchronization of audio signals; and for monitoring loudness and the level of audio signals; and
  • CRC’s open broadcast platforms, such as an open source software framework that enables broadcast transmission and reception on open handhelds based on Openmoko and Android.

The NAB panel on broadcast technology evolution will feature an invited presentation by CRC’s Vice-President of Broadcast Technology Research, Bernard Caron. In addition, CRC’s Dr. Filippo Speranza will present a technical paper during the NAB session devoted to mobile television.

In the commercial area, CRC will introduce CRC-COVLAB to the U.S. market. NAB takes place from April 10 to 15. It is expected to attract some 100,000 visitors, including many industry experts.
