John Lodge has been named the IEEE Canada Outstanding Engineer. The award is one of the most prestigious of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Canada.

IEEE is honouring John's achievements during his 20-year-plus career, 16 of which have been spent at CRC. He manages and does research with the Communications Signal Processing Group in the Satellite Communications Branch.

Highlights in John's career include R&D on digital signal processing techniques for wireless communications, including detection of data transmitted over fading channels and iterative processing for detection and decoding.

"I am very excited and pleased to win an award of this magnitude," he says.

The award was presented at the IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2000 in Halifax.
