CRC scientist sets record with fourth award

A CRC scientist has received an unprecedented fourth Achievement Award for his part in a project to advance military satellite technology.

Barry Felstead of CRC's Military Satellite Communications group, was one of six Canadian recipients of The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP) Achievement Award, presented annually for contributions in collaborative defence research.

"I am quite delighted to receive this achievement award," Barry says. He received TTCP awards in 1992, 1993 and 1995, but he's particularly pleased that Defence Minister Art Eggleton presented this year's awards at the ceremony in early spring.

For two years, Barry, along with Lyle Wagner and Caroline Tom from DREO, analyzed the potential military use of commercial personal communications systems, such as Iridium and Globalstar. Their findings, which will help TTCP members develop a concept of operations for these satcom systems, were presented in workshops held worldwide.

TTCP is an international organization that fosters R&D collaboration among its five member nations: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Congratulations Barry!
