7. One project in Fort Vermilion in Northern Alberta involves retinal imaging to screen for diabetes. Diabetes is a major problem among our aboriginal peoples. In the first clinic we saw 71 clients. Thirteen of them were diagnosed with diabetes and seven needed immediate attention or they would have gone blind.
