ICT Sector Coordinator for Canada-India S&T Agreement

A Science and Technology (S&T) agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of India was signed in November 2005. The Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) sector was one of the agreed upon thematic areas under this agreement. To assist Canadian research and development (R&D) organizations in their ability to collaborate with Indian counterparts, the Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) will undertake the ICT Sector Coordinator role for this S&T Agreement.

Within the ICT sector, the following areas have been recommended for cooperation, however, there is the flexibility to add other areas:

  • Wireless systems
  • Broadband systems
  • Ubiquitous computing
  • New media
  • Bio-informatics
  • Rural/remote connectivity
  • ICT4D
  • Emergency communications
  • Infotainment

In addition, human resource exchanges will be facilitated for faculty members, scientific/technical personnel and student exchanges at both doctoral and post-doctoral levels.

The exploration of holding thematic workshops in both countries to facilitate joint R&D activities will be undertaken.
